Light Rain Returns Tonight for Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia, With a Low-Confidence Winter Storm Signal This Weekend
After a bitter-cold start this morning across northwest Georgia, sunshine will help temperatures rebound this afternoon in Chattooga County, topping out in the lower-to-mid 50s before clouds begin to increase later. By tonight, a weak cold front will slide in and bring light rain showers into the area, with the best chance for showers continuing into Saturday morning before tapering off.
For the far north Georgia mountains, colder air near daybreak Saturday could briefly flip precipitation to a rain/snow mix, and on the highest elevations it may change to all snow for a short time. Any accumulation should stay minor, but a thin coating is possible on the highest peaks, which can still create a few slick spots on mountain roads early Saturday.
Looking ahead, forecasters are keeping an eye on Saturday night into Sunday for a potential winter-weather setup somewhere across parts of the Southeast, but confidence remains very low on the storm track and what (if anything) that means locally for northwest Georgia. In the meantime, expect a noticeable cool-down to settle in behind the front, with Sunday turning colder in Chattooga County and a string of chilly mornings early next week.
