A Calhoun man has been transferred from Autry State Prison to Floyd County to face a long list of charges tied to the execution of two search warrants in November of 2024.
A man authorities say was the passenger in the vehicle involved in last year’s drug-drop attempt near Hays State Prison and the resulting crash that seriously injured a Chattooga County woman was arrested in Chattooga County over the weekend.
Sex crime charges are among the latest indictments returned by a Chattooga County grand jury, with two Summerville men named in the cases.
According to the indictment report, Ayden Matthew Ard, of 271 Scoggins Street in Summerville, was indicted on charges of statutory rape and sodomy. Court records cited in the report state the alleged victim is between 13 and 16 years old and younger than the accused. Also indicted was Michael Lamar Battles, of 702 Scoggins Street in Summerville, on charges of child molestation and grooming of a minor.
The indictments are part of the latest group of felony cases returned in Chattooga County. An indictment is a formal accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
A woman was arrested earlier this month following a shoplifting incident at the Walmart in Trion.
According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the store on April 10th after reports of a suspected shoplifter attempting to leave with unpaid merchandise.
Upon arrival, deputies identified the suspect as Alexis Louise Dollar, who had allegedly been seen on camera selecting items and attempting to leave the store without paying. Loss prevention personnel advised that Dollar had passed all points of sale with merchandise valued at more than $180.
Authorities later located the suspect’s vehicle traveling on Highway 27. After an investigation and review of surveillance footage, deputies obtained a warrant through Rome City Court.
Alexis Louise Dollar was later taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting. She was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.

A Summerville man has been arrested following an incident in Dalton where police say he was observed performing lewd acts inside his vehicle.
A Chattooga County woman was arrested following a trespassing incident at the Menlo Handy Mart on Highway 48.
According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the convenience store on April 3 after reports of a female subject on the property who had previously been warned not to return.
The suspect was identified as Kimberly Joyce Basham. Authorities say Basham had been trespassed from the business in the past but returned again, prompting the call to law enforcement.
Deputies made contact with Basham at the scene and took her into custody without incident. She was transported to the Chattooga County Jail and charged with criminal trespass.
Rome Police are investigating after a 6-year-old child was shot Wednesday afternoon, April 8, 2026, near the intersection of East 13th Street and Crane Street in the John Graham Homes area.
According to Rome Police, officers responded shortly after 3:08 p.m. to reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found a 6-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the right leg. The child was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
Investigators say preliminary information indicates the child was not the intended target. Police believe the shots were fired from a moving vehicle.
The case remains an active and ongoing investigation. Rome Police are asking anyone with information, video footage, or who may have witnessed anything in the area to call 9-1-1 immediately, noting that even the smallest detail could be critical.
