Mrs. Lucy Drucillia Horton, age 89 of Summerville, GA passed away Monday- July 26, 2021 at a Rome, GA hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Mason Funeral Home.
Pennville Community Church will be celebrating homecoming this Sunday August 1, at 10:30 a.m. Vernon Greeson will be singing with lunch to follow the service. The public is invited to attend.
A Tunnel Hill man is facing 25 years behind bars for slashing pastor’s throat at a gas station last May. The suspect entered a guilty plea and was represented by an attorney from Summerville.
Last week a Chattooga County Deputy on patrol received a call about a burglary at Cloudland. When the deputy arrived at the home on Atlanta Avenue, the homeowner showed the deputy where someone had pried open a storage shed. The homeowner, Helen Farley, told the deputy that the burglar had taken a gas-powered log splitter. The log-splitter was valued at $400. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
Since 1942, State Congress has been the premier competition and recognition event for high school age Georgia 4-H’ers. Held each year in Atlanta, State Congress is a four-day event that hosts various contests, recognizes 4-H scholarship recipients, and honors state 4-H winners in a variety of projects and competitions.
Georgia gas prices decreased at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $2.96 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday’s state average was 1 cent less than a week ago, 5 cents more than last month and 96 cents more than this time last year.
A strong thunderstorm that barreled through Cherokee County, Alabama on Sunday afternoon brought with it a significant amount of cloud to ground lightning – leaving in its wake a structure that was destroyed on County Road 129.
The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair will be taking place Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 26th-29th. One of the features this year will be the additional of kitchen demonstrations.
Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry is asking for a bid for work to be done on the Tooga Theater. Those bids are due in the commissioner’s office by Friday of this week.
