The Town of Lyerly has made the decision to postpone Lyerly Down Home Day due to the impending rain forecasted for the latter part of this week. Down Home Day will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 10 AM – 2 PM.
The Menlo PTO Block Party is shaping up to be an exciting and engaging community event that promises fun for the whole family. For just $5, adult attendees can enjoy the event. Delicious hot dog, chips, and drinks, and the always-popular cake walk and a raffle entry for a fantastic “Date Day” prize are all part of the fun. Prize bundles feature a buy-one-get-one-free lunch buffet at Jim’s Restaurant in Summerville, two movie tickets to Berry Square Movies, and a $60 gift card to Outback Steakhouse, complete with two free orders of their famous Bloomin’ Onion.
The Chattooga County Girl Scout Troop 40119 will be having a community meeting on Thursday September 17th at 5pm at the Chattooga County Library. This meeting is for any girl interested in the Girl Scouts and also for community members to come and see what the Girls Scouts are all about and how the Girl Scouts can help the community and how the community can help your Girl Scouts. On Monday, September 16th there will be free food distribution at Summerville Middle School. Anyone in need of food is welcome to come by between the hours of 2 PM and 4 PM. The food will be distributed first come, first serve, while supplies last.
The Chattooga High School class of 1974 is having a very important planning meeting for their 50th class reunion this Saturday at 12 noon at the Crushed Tomato in Summerville. On Wednesday September 18th a lot of exciting health related events will be taking place at Mount Vernon Mills in Trion Georgia.
We will be hosting a blood drive in conjunction with Blood Assurance. Buses will be at the Trion facilities from 7am-5pm to collect much needed blood donations to be used for our local community.
Also on this day from 9am-12 noon Primary Healthcare along with other area vendors will be present to provide information and links to free and low-cost health services available to our community.
And new to our line-up of health related events: CHI Memorial Breathe Easy Lung Scan Bus will be available from 1pm-8pm providing Free or Low-Cost Lung CT Scans. The basic guidelines for the free/low-cost Lung CT Scan are:
1) age 50 or older
2) a current or former smoker
3) have not had a Lung CT scan in the last 12 months
Community members and employees can participate in any or all of these exciting activities. James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park will host Jr. Ranger Camp coming up next month . There will be two dates for different age groups. The first camp will be on October 3rd from 8:30 AM until 4 PM for ages 6-10 and the second will be held on October 4th for ages 11-14, also from 8:30 AM until 4 PM. Campers will learn archery basics and get to try their hand at fishing and will also learn about wildlife in the park. For registration or questions, call the park office at 706-857-0826. The cost of the camp is $30 per camper.
Subligna Community Center fundraiser will be held this Saturday, September 14th from 11:30 AM until 2 PM. Come out and support the Subligna Community Center and get some good BBQ for $10 per person.
