Coosa Man Arrested Following Rome Shooting

A Coosa man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that happened Wednesday at an apartment on North Avery Road in Rome.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 27-year-old Malik Tray Qurvas Curtis is accused of shooting a 24-year-old woman in the stomach, causing serious injuries.

Authorities say Curtis and the victim had been living together at the time of the incident.

Curtis is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Summerville Man Charged After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Woman in Floyd County

A Summerville man was arrested Thursday at North Elm Street and Laurel Avenue in Floyd County and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly pointing a firearm at a woman during an argument.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 51-year-old Phillip Cornell Williams is accused of pointing the gun at the woman during the dispute at a location on Shorter Avenue.

Williams is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Armuchee Man Charged After Alleged Assault at Burr Drive Residence

An Armuchee man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges following an alleged assault early Friday morning at a residence on Burr Drive, according to jail reports.

Authorities say the incident occurred when a woman was shoved onto a couch and allegedly choked. Reports indicate the suspect pinned the woman’s arms at her sides during the assault.

Justin Anthony Stanley, 37, was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery. He was later booked into the Floyd County Jail.

No additional details were released, and the case remains under investigation.

Catoosa Jury Convicts 53-Year-Old in Domestic Violence Shooting Case; Judge Sentences Him to 22 Years

A Catoosa County jury has convicted Shane Murray Bowling, 53, of Aggravated Assault, Family Violence Battery, and Discharge of a Firearm Near a Public Street following a violent attack on his girlfriend earlier this year. After a pre-sentence investigation, a judge sentenced Bowling on October 22, 2025, to 22 years, with the first 15 years to be served in custody. Court officials said that once Bowling is released, he must complete a Family Violence Intervention Program and undergo a substance-abuse evaluation.
