A brand-new spring fair is coming to Rome later this month as the inaugural Coosa Valley Spring Fair prepares to open at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds beginning May 22.
The Chattooga Chamber will host its next Lunch and Learn event on Wednesday, May 20, with “Marketing 101 Part 2.”
The program will feature Dr. Heather Morgan, a marketing professor at Kennesaw State University and founder of Morgan Marketing Associates. Morgan specializes in retail and digital marketing strategy, helping businesses improve messaging, reach the right audience, and grow.
The catered lunch is open to the public, but reservations are required. Admission is $12 for Chattooga Chamber members and $17 for non-members.
The event will be held from noon until 1 p.m. at the Hurley Community Development Center, located at 10050 Commerce Street in Summerville.
The City of Summerville will present the second concert of the Summerville Natural Gas Friday Night Concert Series on Friday, May 15.
The free concert, sponsored by Summerville Main Street, will be held on East Washington Street within the Entertainment District. Local vocalist Charlie Long will open the evening at 7 p.m., followed by The 1st Generation Band at 7:30 p.m. for a two-hour concert.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and dancing shoes. Downtown restaurants will also be open, and the event is family friendly.
East Washington Street will close from US 27/Commerce Street to Regions Bank beginning at 3:15 p.m. for stage setup. Regions Bank customers will still be able to access the drive-thru from the East Washington/University Street side and the main lobby from the north end of Economy Street.

Residents in Chattooga County will have the opportunity to learn hands-on food preservation skills this summer through a series of workshops hosted by the UGA Extension Office.
The classes, led by Chattooga County Extension Agent Rebecca Thomas, will cover a variety of popular home preservation techniques and recipes, including jams, jellies, canning, and pickling.
Workshops begin June 2 with a session on Jams & Jellies from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Additional classes include:
- Canning Tomatoes & Salsa on July 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
- Cowboy Candy on August 4 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
- Pickled Okra on September 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Each class costs $25, and space is limited to 15 participants per session. Officials say payment is required to secure registration.
All workshops will be held at the Chattooga County Extension Office, located at 40 Middle School Road in Summerville.

Young athletes in Chattooga County will have an opportunity to sharpen their basketball skills and have some fun on the court next month as the Red & Black Basketball Camp returns to Chattooga High School.
The two-day camp is scheduled for May 28th and 29th and will run each morning from 9 a.m. until noon. It is open to boys and girls in 1st through 4th grade, offering a chance for younger players to build fundamentals, play games, and develop confidence in a positive, energetic environment.
Organizers say the camp will focus on skill development, teamwork, and making the game enjoyable for all participants, regardless of experience level.
The registration fee is $20, and payment must be made by cash or check.

The City of Summerville is inviting the community out for another night of live music as the Friday Night Concert Series continues on April 24.
The featured performance will be Pink Houses, a John Mellencamp tribute band, taking the stage from 7:30 to 9:30 PM in the East Washington Street Entertainment District. An opening local act will begin at 7 PM.

One of the biggest events of the spring gets underway today in Rome as the Wings Over North Georgia Air Show returns to Russell Regional Airport for a two-day run.
Trion Football will host a youth football camp June 3, 4, and 5 at Sam R. McCain Stadium.
The camp is open to children ages 5 through 12 and will run each evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Participants will receive skills, drills, and instruction from Trion coaches and players, giving young athletes a chance to learn fundamentals and improve their game.
The cost is $30 per camper, which includes a t-shirt. Payment and registration will be accepted the day of camp at the stadium. Cash or checks will be accepted, with checks made payable to Trion Football.
