Summerville Police Investigating Reported Burglary on Stevens Street

Police in Summerville are investigating a reported burglary after a resident discovered signs of forced entry at a home on Stevens Street.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Stevens Street around 12:48 p.m. on March 2, 2026 in reference to a burglary complaint. The resident told police a neighbor reported seeing someone inside a carport storage closet on a previous date.

When officers checked the residence, they observed a window screen that appeared to have been pried open. The report notes the resident was not home at the time of the incident, and officers were unable to locate the person described by the neighbor.

The case has been documented and forwarded for further investigation.

A handgun was reported stolen in Summerville on Tuesday of this week, after the owner discovered it missing from the glove box of a vehicle, according to a report filed with the Summerville Police Department.

Summerville Man Arrested on Criminal Trespass Damage Charge

Summerville Police responded to a reported break-in and property damage call on Friday, February 20, 2026, at a home on Cleghorn Street, according to an incident report.

The victim told officers the suspect forced open the front door and caused damage inside the residence, including overturning a bed. A witness also reported seeing the suspect leave the scene and “peel out” of the yard.

Police say the suspect, Jeffrey Garner, age 56, was later located at his residence on West Halls Valley Road at around 9:00 p.m. and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Chattooga County Jail.

In the report, the suspect reportedly admitted entering the home and overturning the bed, saying he went to the residence to confront the victim and she was not home.

Garner was charged with Criminal Trespass and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
