Trion Recreation Department Summer Baseball Registration Ends Today

Parents still have time to sign up their children for Trion Recreation Department Summer Baseball, but the registration deadline is today, Monday, June 8.

The summer league will offer three age divisions, including 6U Coach Pitch, 8U Coach Pitch, and 11U Machine Pitch. The season is scheduled to run from July 10 through August 14.

The registration fee is $30 per player, and player age eligibility is based on the child’s age as of September 1.

Families interested in participating are encouraged to register at Trion Recreation before today’s deadline. Officials remind parents that registrations must be completed by the end of the day to guarantee participation in this year’s summer program.

The summer baseball program provides young athletes with an opportunity to develop their skills, learn teamwork, and enjoy organized competition during the summer months.

Parents still have time to register their children for Trion Recreation Department summer baseball, but the deadline is quickly approaching.

Registration is now open for 6U and 8U coach pitch leagues along with an 11U machine pitch league. The season is scheduled to run from July 10th through August 14th.

The cost is $30 per player, and player age will be determined based on age as of September 1st.

Officials say the deadline to sign up is June 7th. Registration is taking place through Trion Recreation.

Congratulations to Jordon Butler’s Trion 10U softball team on an undefeated season and a trip to the district tournament.

The team completed the season without a loss and will now continue postseason play at districts representing the Trion community.

Team members include:

Emma Blackmon, Millie Blackmon, Chrissie Muller, Riley Skelton, Charlee Tittle, Peyton Butler, Ella Jo Statham, Sophia Dodson, Hazel Crow, Aubree Stoker, Kierra Henderson, Raelyn Potts and Kyleigh Tanner.

The coaching staff includes Head Coach Jordon Butler along with assistants Trey Skelton and Travis Tittle.

WZQZ congratulates the players and coaches on a tremendous season and wishes them the best of luck at districts.

The Trion 6U baseball team has plenty to celebrate after finishing the season with a perfect 10-0 record.

The young team went undefeated from start to finish, earning recognition as the only recreational baseball team in Chattooga County to complete the season without a loss.

The roster includes Adrian Bolton, Cru Womack, Josiah Collins, Ezrah Johnston, Kade Edgerton, Peyton Gilreath, Lancyn Whitten, Koleman Abernathy, Aiden Rogers, Oaklee Blackmon, Kamryn Murphy, Amaris McCutchins, Ryan Lowrance, and Aiden Wallin.

Coaches Sandy Abernathy, Randall Abernathy, Jason Rogers, Brandy Rogers, and Mason Gilreath helped lead the team through the memorable season.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families on an outstanding year for Trion 6U baseball.

Chattooga County 4-H Shotgun Team Sending 13 Shooters To State Competition

The Chattooga County 4-H Shotgun Team is celebrating a strong showing after a recent competition in Gordon County, with 13 local shooters advancing to the state competition.

According to the team, five juniors and eight seniors qualified for state, while Owen Hester earned a perfect score during the event. The Junior Team also captured second place honors, along with one of the Senior Teams.

Junior shooters advancing to state include Nathanael Reimer, RosaLee Hammond, Brayden Forman, Henry Housch, and John Reimer.

Senior team members advancing are Jonas Hardy, Genna Baker, Gabe Smith, Owen Hester, Jackson Montgomery, Brax Cook-Bevels, David Mangan, and Jaden Treadaway.

Team leaders praised the athletes for their hard work and dedication throughout the season as they prepare for state competition in the coming weeks.

Shadow Day Named Administrative Assistant For Summerville Parks And Recreation

The Summerville Parks and Recreation Department has announced the hiring of Shadow Day as its new Administrative Assistant, effective May 1, 2026.

Day joins the department full-time after ten years of service in a similar role with the Chattooga County School System. Parks and Recreation Director Adam Wilson said Day is a natural fit because of her strong community ties, administrative experience, and sports background.

Day also holds a special place in the department’s history, having won a state championship as both a player in 2005 and as a coach in 2024.

Her responsibilities will include day-to-day office operations, planning special events, assisting with sports programs, and helping with a future summer camp.

Chattooga Middle School students interested in playing volleyball next season will have the opportunity to try out this week.

Tryouts are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, and Thursday, May 7 at the Summerville Middle School gym, with sessions running from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days.

The tryouts are open to current and upcoming Chattooga Middle School students. Participants should come prepared with knee pads.

Chattooga Red and Black Basketball Camp Registration Set for May

Registration is now open for the upcoming Chattooga Indians Red and Black Basketball Camp, scheduled for later this month at Chattooga High School.

The camp will take place on May 28 and May 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is open to boys and girls in first through fourth grade.

Organizers say the camp is designed to help young players develop fundamental basketball skills while also giving them the opportunity to play games and enjoy time on the court.

The registration fee is $20, payable by cash or check.

Parents and guardians interested in signing up their children are encouraged to register ahead of time.
