Waves of rainfall are expected across Chattooga County and the rest of Northwest Georgia from today through Tuesday as a cold front and multiple disturbances move across the region. The first round of showers began early this morning, and additional periods of rain will continue throughout the day. Temperatures locally remain in the 40s and 50s, so no winter weather impacts are expected for our area.
North Georgia Community Action is reminding residents that the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, opens tomorrow, December 1st, for homebound and elderly households. The program, administered through the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, provides financial help with winter heating bills — but funding is limited, and applications are handled strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.
Santa Claus is getting ready for a busy Christmas season in Chattooga County, and State Court Judge Jon Dennis is helping spread the word on where families can find him throughout December. Dennis released Santa’s official appearance schedule, noting that Santa is eager to see children across Summerville and the rest of the county as the holiday season begins.
The Northwest Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross is encouraging residents to give locally this holiday season to help support families across the region. The chapter serves 15 counties, including Chattooga and Floyd, and relies on community support to continue providing lifesaving services throughout the year.
As holiday shopping season kicks into high gear, state officials are warning Georgians to stay alert after new federal data revealed Americans lost nearly $13 billion to fraud last year. Georgia was among the hardest-hit states, with residents losing an estimated $300 million to cyber-related scams.
