Walker County Commissioners will hold their regular monthly meeting for December, the final meeting of 2024, at 6:30 PM this Thursday.  Commissioners will be voting on a resolution to adjust the compensation of several constitutional office holder.  According to an agenda released on Friday, the commissioners will be voting to adjust the supplement to compensation for the Walker County Solicitor General.  Also, they will be setting the annual compensation for the Walker County Coroner and will vote to establish a supplement to compensation for the Walker County Sheriff.  The meeting will be held at the Walker county Courthouse Annex III, located at 201 South Main Street in LaFayette and the public is invited to attend.

The Georgia Department of Corrections has confirmed an inmate named Anthony Knight died at Macon State Prison on Tuesday while serving a 20-year sentence for aggravated assault. The Georgia Department of Corrections confirmed his death but did not provide details on how he died. Knight’s body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an official cause of death after being handed over to the Macon County Coroner’s Office.

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has awarded over $7. 4 million for three contracts in Northwest Georgia. These contracts include a bridge replacement, a road widening, and two maintenance projects, with work expected to start in the coming months after the holidays.
