The Chattooga County Historical Society will be holding a meeting coming up this Sunday, February 26th at 2 PM. The guest speaker will be Beverly Foster, president of Walker County Historical and Alumni Association Inc. Foster will be presenting a program on the importance of Chattooga County in the unveiling of Northwest Georgia’s African American History in the 21st century. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings of the Chattooga County Historical Society.
A twenty-four-year-old Summerville woman was arrested after she hit her dad with a baby bottle. Summerville Police say that they responded to a domestic incident on Allen Street after a man called to say that his daughter “needed help”. When police arrived, the victim said that his daughter was yelling and throwing items at him and had punched him. An officer spoke with the suspect, identified as Sharon Dodd, who admitted to throwing a baby bottle at her dad and hitting him in the neck. Officers observed swelling blood under the surface of the skin of the victim. Officers told the suspect that she couldn’t resort to physical violence to solve disagreements and arrested her on battery charges under the Family Violence Act.
Recently, the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, announced the 2023 Maintenance and Support team. During their 77th air show season, the Blue Angels are scheduled to perform 62 demonstrations at 33 locations. Joining the team for the upcoming season will be AM1 (Aviation Structural Mechanic Petty Officer 1st Class) Karlan “Ross” Alexander from Summerville, Georgia.
The Trion Board of Education has voted to raise tuition rates for those that live outside the Trion town limits. The tuition rate is currently $150 per student, and that will go up to $200 per student for the 2023-2024 school year. However, the family tuition rate, for those with multiple students in the school system, will still be capped at $450. Trion School Supt. Dr. Phil Williams suggested to the board that the family tuition rate be capped at $450. It is the first time the Trion Board of Education has raised tuition rates in nine years. Higher insurance rates for employees and rising costs were cited as the reason for the increase in tuition rates.
With the news that Governor Brian Kemp will be appointing Chris Arnt to the Lookout Mountain Superior Court, there will now be an opening for the governor to appoint a new district attorney for the circuit.

The Trion Bulldogs wrestling team fell short at the GHSA state traditional tournament on Friday, bu Toby Maddux and Logan Eller ended the season undefeated and with individual state championships. Toby Maddux captured the championship for the 165 pound class and Logan Eller was state champion for the 190 pound class. The Trion Bulldogs set a school record with seven wrestlers competing at the tournament who made the Class A finals, more than any other school represented. Trion went 2-7 on the title round and lost three individual matchups to Social Circle. The Bulldogs finished third in team standings. Congratulations to Toby Maddux and Logan Eller and to the Trion Bulldogs Wrestling Team for a great season.
