The Summerville City Council has a called meeting on Monday. The main item on the agenda is the creation of a three-member panel to conduct hearings for employee grievance complaints regarding termination. That hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8th at 4 PM. The council will also hear from city attorney Albert Palmour and will have an executive session to discuss personnel. Tomorrow’s meeting will get underway at 5:30 PM at Summerville City Hall and the public is welcome to attend.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in capturing a fugitive from justice. On Friday, the agency added Michael Tyler Spears to their 10 Most Wanted list. Spears is wanted for two counts of aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act along with kidnapping and battery. Anyone with information about Spears’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office at 706-236-2466 weekdays; or contact 911 anytime. Additionally, you can anonymously submit a tip about his whereabouts through the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office app.
America’s dairy farmers aren’t happy with plant-based alternatives being labeled as “milk”, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a ruling that will allow manufacturers of oat, soy and nut-based products to continue calling their products milk.

On Wednesday of this week, Micah Gravley was elected to represent Congressional District 14 (CD 14), which includes 14 counties in Northwest Georgia, on the State Transportation Board. He was elected by a caucus of state representatives and senators from Georgia CD 14. Gravley will replace Jerry Shearin, who did not seek re-election after five years on the board.
This week, Dade County Sheriff’s Deputies seized over 63 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in the Head River area of Cloudland on Lookout Mountain.
State Representative Lauren McDonald (R-Cumming), one of Governor Brian Kemp’s floor leaders, on Thursday announced that the Georgia House of Representatives passed House Bill 162, legislation which would provide a one-time tax refund for eligible citizens of Georgia. Rep. McDonald is carrying HB 162 on behalf of Gov. Kemp, who recently announced his plan to return $1 billion dollars back to taxpayers.
