Mark your calendars, the Chattooga High School FFA (Future Farmers of America) is excited to announce the dates for their annual plant sale. Students have prepared a wide variety of plants, including colorful flowers and vegetables, ready for your garden. This is a great chance to support local agricultural education while enhancing your home. The sale will happen on March 27th and 28th, and April 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th, all from 8 AM to 5 PM. Free Food At Summerville Middle School On Friday

If you or someone you know needs some help with groceries this week, there will be a free food giveaway at Summerville Middle School on Friday evening.  The event is sponsored by Helping Hands Ending Hunger and the Summerville Middle School FFA.  Anyone in need is welcome to come by Summerville Middle School, located off Highway 100 on Summerville Middle School Drive from 5:30 PM until 6 PM on Friday, March 14th.

 

 

GNTC Waving Application Fees During The Month Of March

Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) is waiving its application fee for the entire month. This offers significant savings and removes a financial barrier for potential students looking to enroll in GNTC’s wide array of programs. Interested individuals are encouraged to take advantage of this limited-time offer. The GNTC Admissions Office is readily available to assist with the application process. You can reach them through the call center at (866) 983-4682, or by visiting any of GNTC’s campuses Monday through Friday, between 7:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. You can also reach out via email to the Admissions Office for any inquiries. Traditionally, applying to GNTC requires an online application and a $25 non-refundable application fee. Prospective students must also submit an official copy of their high school transcript or GED® transcript, although an unofficial copy will be accepted temporarily. Once accepted, students are required to register online for the mandatory New Student Orientation; details regarding this will be emailed to them. Menlo Lions Club Brunswick Stew Sale

Countywide Youth Art Show March 22nd At The Summerville Depot

The City of Summerville, in partnership with Summerville Main Street, is excited to announce a vibrant Youth Art Show at the historic Summerville Depot on Saturday, March 22nd, from 10 AM to 5 PM. The event, held in celebration of Youth Art Month, a nationally recognized program promoting visual art education for students in grades K-12, promises a day of creativity, inspiration, and family fun. Youth Art Month highlights the importance of art education and fosters support for quality school art programs. The 2024/2025 theme, “Healing Through Color,” will be showcased throughout the exhibit, featuring diverse artworks created by elementary through high school students from across Chattooga County. Attendees can expect a captivating display of young talent, along with free interactive art activities designed to engage and inspire young artists. New for 2025, the show will also feature Adult Art Exhibits, adding another layer of artistic expression to the event. Ms. Trion Pageant Registration Deadline Extended

Aspiring young ladies of Trion City Schools have an extended opportunity to register for the Ms. Trion Pageant, with the new deadline set for March 7, 2025. This fundraising event supports The Pride of Trion Band program to help maintain high performance standards. The pageant welcomes all female students from Trion City Schools, featuring categories from Wee Miss Trion (Pre-K – Kindergarten) to Miss Trion (10th-12th Grade).

Chattooga County To Host Adult Spelling Bee To Benefit Literacy Council

The Chattooga Literacy Council is hosting its annual Adult Spelling Bee on March 4th at 7 PM at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center. This promises to be an evening of fun, excitement, and friendly competition, all while supporting a vital cause. Teams of three will battle it out for the coveted Spelling Bee trophy, a symbol of linguistic prowess that they will proudly hold until next year’s competition. The entry fee per team is $300, and refreshments will be available throughout the evening. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Chattooga County Literacy Council’s important initiatives. Funds raised will provide GED scholarships for county residents, ensure every third-grade student in the area receives a dictionary, support the Book Bag Program, and keep local little libraries stocked with books for readers of all ages. Chattooga County Young Farmers To Host BBQ Sack Lunch Fundraiser

The Chattooga County Young Farmers are excited to announce a delicious opportunity for the community to enjoy a tasty BBQ sack lunch while supporting local agricultural initiatives. On Friday, March 28, residents can enjoy a BBQ sandwich meal that includes a sandwich, chips, and a sweet treat, all for just $7 each. Lunch will be available for pick-up or delivery from 11 AM to 1 PM. Orders will be accepted until March 21, and pre-orders are appreciated. The pick-up location will be at the Chattooga County Ag Center, located at 40 Middle School Road. For those ordering in groups of more than five, delivery options are available to local schools and businesses. Vietnam Veterans Lunch At Chattooga County Memorial Home

All veterans who served in the US military during the Vietnam era from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975 are invited to a luncheon on Friday March 28, 2025. The event will be held at 12 noon at the Chattooga County Memorial Home located at 818 Memorial Drive Summerville.  All Vietnam veterans are encouraged to attend and bring their families to enjoy a time of food and fellowship.

The following day, Saturday March 29, is the official National Vietnam War Veterans Day which marks the day the last combat troops departed Vietnam on March 29, 1973.  This national holiday is a time to pay tribute to the nine million Americans who served not only in-country, but at posts around the world in support of the lengthy war effort.  It is also a time to thank the families for their support and sacrifices.
