The Chattooga County Extension Office is hosting a one-day “Horse 101” camp for children interested in horses, with no previous experience needed.
The Chattooga County Extension Office, in partnership with the University of Georgia Extension, is offering a series of hands-on food preservation workshops throughout the summer of 2025. Led by Chattooga County Extension Agent Rebecca Thomas, these classes will teach participants the proper techniques and safe methods for home canning and preserving delicious, seasonal foods.
The University of Georgia Extension in Chattooga County is holding its annual Freestone Peach Sale to raise funds for local 4-H programs. For over ten years, Chattooga County 4-H has worked with Dickey Farms, a family-owned business since 1897, to provide fresh South Georgia peaches. This year’s sale is ongoing until June 30th, with a box of about 25 lbs. of peaches available for $40. These peaches are great for eating fresh or making jams. Orders will be delivered from July 7-9, and customers should order quickly due to limited quantity. The Teloga Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual BBQ fundraiser, offering whole smoked pork butts for $45 each. The Town of Trion and the Trion Veterans Committee is asking the public to come out and honor our nation’s heroes this Memorial Day Weekend. Coming up on Saturday, May 24th at 1 PM, there will be a program at the Trion Veterans Memorial, located at the Trion Track Field off Simmons Street in Trion to remember and honor those who have given their life in service to our country.
Aspiring cheerleaders ages 3-13 are invited to join the Chattooga High School Cheerleading squad for a fun and engaging Tiny Tribe Cheerleading Camp, to be held July 10th and 11th at the Chattooga High School Gymnasium. The camp will run from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day, offering participants the chance to learn cheers, chants, and basic cheerleading skills from the experienced Chattooga High cheerleaders. Registration is open now and will continue until June 19th. The registration fee is $45 per child, with a $5 discount offered for siblings. The Trion Fire Department is gearing up to host its 5th Annual Community Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Trion Pavilion at Track Field. Beyond the festivities, the Fire Department is actively seeking vendors to participate and showcase their goods or services at the event. Aspiring softball stars between the ages of 5 and 12 are invited to hone their skills at the Trion High Softball Youth Camp, taking place June 2nd and 3rd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The camp, held at the J.W. Greenwood Athletic Complex/THS Softball Field, promises fundamental teaching and practice in key softball skills including hitting, throwing, pitching, fielding, and baserunning. Rain or shine, young athletes will receive expert instruction to improve their game. The cost of the camp is $30 per camper, which includes a camp t-shirt. Participants are asked to bring their own water bottle, bat, and glove. Early registration is encouraged! Sign up by May 15th to guarantee your camper receives a t-shirt. The Summerville Rec Center is hosting the “Battle at the Bighorn” All-Star Recreation Tournament on May 30th and 31st. Formerly known as “Rumble by the River,” this tournament promises a weekend of exciting baseball action for young athletes. The tournament will feature divisions for 6U Co-ed and 8U & 10U Boys Baseball. Importantly, the competition is geared towards Recreation teams only, with no select teams permitted to ensure a level playing field and a fun, competitive environment for all participants. Teams interested in participating can register for a team entry fee of $75. GRPA (Georgia Recreation and Park Association) rules will apply. The City of Summerville, in collaboration with Summerville Main Street and Reece Tires, is thrilled to announce the return of Friday Night Live with a free downtown concert featuring the Kevin Allen Band (KAMP). Mark your calendars for Friday, May 9, 2025, from 8 PM to 10 PM and head to the open air pavilion on East Washington Street for a night of fantastic music under the stars. KAMP, also known as the Kevin Allen Band, promises a performance that will have you tapping your feet and dancing the night away. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs as seating will be limited. Summerville Main Street also recommends supporting local businesses by enjoying dinner at one of Downtown Summerville’s restaurants before the concert.
