A community blood drive will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Mount Vernon Mills in Trion.
The blood drive will take place from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 91 4th Street in Trion. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment ahead of time.
Blood Assurance reminds donors to eat a good meal, drink extra water, and avoid energy drinks before giving blood. Donors can also save time by using Blood Assurance QuickScreen on the day of their appointment to answer health history questions before arriving.

The Pride of Trion Marching Band will present its annual Spring Band Concert tonight, Monday, May 11, at Trion High School.
The concert begins at 6:30 PM in the Trion High School Gym at 919 Allgood Street in Trion.
The event will highlight the hard work and dedication of Trion’s band students throughout the school year. The community is invited to come out and support the student musicians during an evening of music and celebration.
Band members should arrive between 5:45 and 6:00 PM dressed and ready to perform.
The City of Summerville is inviting the community out for a day of music, food, and local shopping at the upcoming May Market & Melodies event.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10 AM until 3 PM at the Summerville Train Depot.
Organizers say the event will coincide with the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad’s steam engine passenger train, adding a unique attraction for attendees. The day will feature live musical entertainment, a variety of local vendors, and a wide selection of food and handcrafted goods.
The event is free to attend and is designed to be family-friendly.
City officials also noted that anyone interested in becoming a vendor should contact the City of Summerville directly, warning residents not to send payments through third-party apps to avoid potential scams.
Downtown Summerville will be filled with Jeeps, rubber ducks, food vendors, and family fun today during the Ducky Derby Jeep Cruise-In event on East Washington Street.
The event runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and features food and craft vendors, kids activities, and a Jeep cruise-in where participating Jeep owners will receive a special rubber duck for their vehicle.
One of the day’s biggest attractions will be the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad steam engine and the working of the historic Summerville turntable at 1 p.m.
The Rubber Ducky Race is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., with cash prizes awarded to the winning ducks. First place will receive $500, second place $250, and third place $100.
The event is sponsored by GP Federal Credit Union, Pro Roof GA, and Summerville Main Street.
A community event aimed at supporting local special needs programs and Special Olympics athletes is coming to Summerville later this summer.
“Spark Day” is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Dowdy Park in Summerville. The event is being organized by the Speak Life Chattooga County Special Needs Support Group.
Organizers say the fundraiser will support adults participating in Special Olympics activities as well as children involved in summer programs. Community members, vendors, and local resource groups are invited to participate, and organizers say there are no vendor fees for the event.
The event will feature local vendors, baked goods, art, jewelry, T-shirts, coffee, and community resources. Organizers also hope the event helps families connect with programs and services available throughout Northwest Georgia.
According to the event description, organizers hope to make Spark Day an annual community tradition focused on inclusion, fun, and support for special needs families across the region.
A community blood drive is set for Friday, May 15 at Atrium Health Floyd–Chattooga ER, located at 13583 Highway 27 in Trion.
The drive will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., and organizers say just one donation can help save up to three lives.
Those who donate between May 1st and May 15th will also be entered for a chance to win a $100 gift card as part of the Blood Assurance “Local Hero” promotion.

The Chattooga County Library in Summerville will host its Crochet Club on Tuesday from 2 PM to 3 PM.
The group meets at the library located at 360 Farrar Drive and is open to adults ages 18 and up. Participants are invited to bring their own crochet, knitting, cross stitch, or sewing projects to work on while enjoying conversation and sharing ideas with others.
Library officials say the program is designed to provide a relaxed, social environment for local crafters of all skill levels.
A free community paddle event is planned for Saturday, May 9 at Lyerly Dam in Summerville.
The “Free Fun Paddle,” organized by the Chattooga River Group, will begin at 10 AM and take participants along the Blue Trail from the Lyerly Dam launch to Chattoogaville.
Participants will be joined by Shane Kornberg, a natural resources expert with UGA Extension, who will share information on river ecology, invasive versus native species, and the importance of maintaining a diverse ecosystem.
Those planning to attend are asked to bring their own kayak, paddle, life jacket, and snacks, and should be prepared to arrange transportation after the paddle. Organizers will also require a signed waiver before launch.
The 5th Annual Chattooga River Fest is set to return to Trion on Saturday, June 13, bringing a full day of outdoor fun, live music, and family-friendly activities to Northwest Georgia.
The event will begin at 10 AM at the Trion Recreation Department and is open to the public.
Organizers say this year’s festival will feature vendors, festival food, outdoor life demonstrations, and educational talks focused on the Chattooga River and surrounding environment. Attendees can also enjoy live local music throughout the day, with The Band Chickamauga scheduled to headline at 4 PM.
Family activities will include a free KidZone with access to the splash pad, as well as a cornhole tournament and other recreational events.
A kayak raffle sponsored by Atrium Health EMS is also planned, along with a free float on the Lower Chattooga River, with additional details expected to be announced soon.
Organizers say the event is pet-friendly but note that pets must be leashed, well-behaved, and meet specific guidelines for safety.
The Chattooga River Fest is organized by Cindy L. Rivers McGraw and the Chattooga River Group, with support from local sponsors including Atrium Health EMS and Pine Ridge Outdoor Supply.
