UGA Extension Offering Diabetes Cooking School Series In Chattooga County

The University of Georgia Extension – Chattooga County is inviting residents to participate in a Learning to Live With Diabetes” Cooking School Series, designed to help individuals better manage diabetes and other chronic health conditions through healthier cooking and nutrition choices.

The 2026 Lunch and Learn Series will cover several topics including label reading and portion control, sweeteners, carbohydrates and fiber, hypertension and sodium, and modifying recipes for healthier alternatives. Classes will be held Wednesdays from noon until 1:30 p.m. beginning March 25 and continuing through April 22.

Each class costs $15 and includes lunch. Sessions will take place at the Chattooga County Extension Office, 40 Middle School Road in Summerville. To register, residents can call 706-857-0744 or email rbt@uga.edu.

Bridge Health To Host 4th Annual Mental Health Candlelight Vigil In Chattooga County

Bridge Health is inviting the community to attend its 4th Annual Mental Health Candlelight Vigil this spring in Chattooga County.

The event will take place Thursday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Chattooga County Civic Center. Organizers say the vigil will be an evening focused on community, reflection, and hope while supporting individuals and families on their mental health journey.

Participants will gather to light candles in honor of resilience, promote mental health awareness, and offer encouragement to those facing mental health challenges. Officials say the event is designed to remind people that no one has to face their struggles alone.

The vigil is hosted by Bridge Health with support from the Family Crisis Center and C.A.R.E.S., and community members are encouraged to attend and stand together in support of mental health awareness.

Chattooga River Group to Host Blue Trail Paddle Event in Summerville

The Chattooga River Group is inviting the public to take part in an upcoming Blue Trail paddle event on Lyerly Dam Road in Summerville. The paddle will begin with a mass launch at 10 a.m. and will follow the route from Lyerly Dam Launch to Chattoogaville.

Special guest Shane Kornberg, former manager of the Fish Hatchery in Cohutta and now an Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent with UGA Extension in Whitfield County, will lead discussion during the outing. Organizers say Kornberg will cover topics including river ecology, invasive versus native species, and the benefits of a diverse ecosystem.

Participants will need to bring their own kayak, paddle, life jacket, and snacks, and should also make their own transportation arrangements for after the paddle. Organizers say each participant will be asked to provide an emergency contact and sign a waiver before launching.

Blood Drive Planned at Chattooga County EMA on April 10

Residents in Chattooga County will have an opportunity to help save lives during an upcoming community blood drive hosted at the Chattooga County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) in Summerville. The blood drive is scheduled for Friday, April 10, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the EMA facility located at 170 Farrar Drive.

The event is being organized in partnership with Blood Assurance, and officials say a single blood donation can help save up to three lives. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance through bloodassurance.org/schedule, though walk-ins may be accepted if space allows.

In addition, Blood Assurance is offering an incentive for donors. Anyone who donates between April 1 and April 15 will be entered to win a $100 gift card, with one winner selected per community and seven winners total.

Community leaders say blood donations are always needed to help hospitals maintain an adequate supply for patients requiring surgeries, treatments, and emergency care.

Trion Lodge #160 Hosting First Responders Breakfast April 18

Trion Lodge #160 will host a First Responders Breakfast on Saturday, April 18, honoring the men and women who serve their communities in emergency response roles.

The breakfast will be held from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the lodge, located at 75 Seventh Street in Trion.

First responders attending can enjoy a hearty breakfast menu that includes eggs, sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy.

Organizers say the event is a way to show appreciation and support for those who work in law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services, and other first responder roles throughout the area.

All first responders are welcome to attend.

Miss Chattooga County Pageant Set for March 28 at Chattooga High School

The Miss Chattooga County Pageant 2026 will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Chattooga High School in the auditorium/cafeteria. Organizers are encouraging contestants to register early and take advantage of the discounted entry fee.

The early registration deadline is March 20 at 11:59 p.m., with an entry fee of $40. Participants who register before that deadline will save $10 compared to the late registration fee. Late registration will remain open until March 26 at 6:00 p.m., with a fee of $50.

Contestants must either live in Chattooga County or attend a school in Chattooga County to be eligible to participate. Reigning winners may not compete in the same category the following year but may enter the next category if their age allows them to move up.

AdventHealth to Hold Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for New Summerville Primary Care & Urgent Care Facility

Residents of Chattooga County and surrounding Northwest Georgia communities are invited to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new AdventHealth Medical Group Primary Care & Urgent Care location in Summerville.

The event will take place TODAY, Thursday, March 5 at 4:00 p.m. at the new facility located at 9777 Rome Boulevard in Summerville.

Community members, local leaders, and healthcare representatives are expected to attend the celebration marking the opening of the new medical facility. The event will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the services offered while celebrating expanded healthcare access for the region.

AdventHealth officials say the new location will provide primary care services as well as urgent care, helping meet the growing healthcare needs of Chattooga County and nearby Northwest Georgia communities.

Miss Trion Pageant Registration Deadline March 6; Pageant Set for March 14

The Pride of Trion Marching Band is reminding the community that there’s only one week left to register for the Miss Trion Pageant or sign on as an event sponsor.

Organizers say the registration and sponsorship deadline is Friday, March 6, and the pageant will be held Saturday, March 14.

Registration is available online through the Trion High School Band Boosters website. Paper registration forms are also available in the school office and can be turned in at the office with payment.

In addition to contestants, organizers say they are still seeking sponsors to help make the event a success, with sponsorship options available online.

Indoor Community Yard Sale Set for March 7 at Center Post Community Center

Bargain hunters in Northwest Georgia will have a chance to shop local this weekend as the Center Post Community Center hosts an indoor community yard sale on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
