A cold front that brought showers and thunderstorms across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia early Thursday morning is expected to move out of the area by early afternoon, leaving gusty winds and cooler air behind.

A steady northwest breeze is adding an extra bite to the air, and temperatures early today are stuck in the 30s across much of the area. Even though the morning may feel damp and dreary, it’s not a rainy setup—just low clouds and cool air lingering behind the departing weather system.
After a mostly quiet start to Friday in Chattooga County, residents should be ready for wet roads and off-and-on showers as rain builds back into Northwest Georgia late today and lasts into Saturday. Forecasters expect clouds to thicken through the afternoon as moisture streams north, setting the stage for showers to spread in late Friday evening and overnight.

High clouds will continue to stream across the region, and while humidity levels will drop near fire-danger thresholds, the dry air is expected to ease after today.
Northwest Georgia, including Chattooga County, will stay dry and cool through Saturday as high pressure remains in control of the region. Forecasters say these dry conditions, combined with low humidity and breezy northwest winds, may create elevated fire danger across parts of north and central Georgia.
