Hurley Community Development Center to Celebrate Grand Opening in Summerville

The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will host a grand opening and open house for the newly renovated Hurley Community Development Center on Thursday, April 2, from 5 PM to 7 PM. The event will take place at 10050 Commerce Street in downtown Summerville.

The updated facility is designed to serve as a hub for corporate events, training sessions, and private meetings. Chamber officials say the move to this central downtown location will allow them to better support local businesses and provide information to visitors.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held shortly after 5 PM, and the doors will remain open until 7 PM. Refreshments will be provided, and the public is invited to attend and tour the facility.

The Summerville Natural Gas Friday Night Concert Series is set to return this spring and summer, bringing free live music to downtown Summerville’s East Washington Street Entertainment District.

The concert lineup kicks off April 24 at 7 p.m. with Pink Houses, followed by the 1st Generation Band on May 15, and Strictly Skynyrd on June 19. Each performance will begin at 7 p.m. on the outdoor stage, offering a mix of classic rock, soul, and Southern favorites for music fans of all ages.

Hosted in the heart of downtown and sponsored by Summerville Main Street, the series is designed to bring the community together for evenings of entertainment, food, and local shopping. Organizers encourage residents and visitors to come out, enjoy the atmosphere, and support local businesses during each event.

The Summerville Middle School FFA chapter is stepping up to support local animals in need by hosting an Animal Shelter Donation Drive for the Chattooga County Animal Shelter from February 24–27, 2026.

Students are collecting essential supplies to help care for dogs and cats currently housed at the shelter. Needed items include dog food (wet and dry), cat food (wet and dry), cat litter, Milk Bones, cat treats, towels, hard dog toys, and cat toys. All donations should be placed in the front lobby of Summerville Middle School during the collection dates.

FFA members say the drive is part of their ongoing commitment to service, leadership, and community involvement. By organizing the donation effort, students are learning firsthand the importance of giving back while also helping ensure local shelter animals have the food, comfort items, and enrichment they need.

Community donations are welcome, and organizers encourage residents to participate and help make a positive difference for animals across Chattooga County.

LaFayette Farmers Market-GA is inviting local makers, growers, and producers to apply to become vendors for the 2026 market season. Market organizers say the LaFayette Farmers Market is a producer-only, community-centered market focused on supporting local agriculture, artisans, and small businesses—welcoming vendors who grow it, raise it, bake it, or make it.

All vendors, including those who participated in past seasons, are required to re-apply for 2026. The market will run Saturdays from April 25 through August 29, operating 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine, in Downtown LaFayette, Georgia.

The Summerville Main Street Spring Market is returning in 2026, offering a full day of shopping, food, and entertainment to welcome the spring season. The market will take place Saturday, April 18, from 10 AM until 3 PM at Dowdy Park.

Shoppers can browse a wide variety of vendors featuring arts and crafts, jewelry, baked goods, body and hair care products, wooden items, food, live plants, specialty pet items, and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy special musical entertainment throughout the day.

Vendors interested in participating can request vendor information and registration details by emailing slocklear@summervillega.org. Organizers remind vendors that all payments are made only to the City of Summerville Main Street. Henry’s BBQ, a longtime staple in Chattooga County, was destroyed by fire Tuesday evening, leaving the restaurant a total loss and putting multiple local families in a difficult and uncertain position. Those close to the business say the Henry/Foster family has long been known for being kind and hardworking, and that Chasity has poured her heart into keeping the family restaurant running while serving the community. Employees who depended on those shifts now have no workplace to return to as they try to provide for themselves and their families. The loss extends beyond the building itself, impacting a business that has been part of daily life in Chattooga County for years and the workers who helped keep it going. February is more than just a bridge between winter and spring—it’s a season for connection, and Summerville Main Street is inviting the community to help “paint the town red” with the return of the “Live, Love, Local” Heart Project. Throughout the month of February, Downtown Summerville will be lined with personalized, heart-shaped messages designed to celebrate the people, places, and stories that make the community special.

Organizers say the project is a chance for everyone to share a message in a fun and visible way, whether it’s a shout-out to a favorite small business, a tribute to a loved one, a school celebration, or a note of encouragement for the community. Hearts can be purchased as a single-sided display for $30 or double-sided for $50, and orders can be placed by visiting the Summerville Main Street office at 179 Union Street.
