Chattooga County 4-H Announces 2026 “Into the Wild” Camp At F.D. Roosevelt State Park

Chattooga County 4-H and ANR have announced that F.D. Roosevelt State Park has been selected as the destination for this year’s annual “Into the Wild” Camp.

Students will take part in a three-day, two-night adventure from June 1 through June 3, exploring Georgia’s largest state park. Camp activities will include hiking, swimming, and fishing, along with opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and learn more about Georgia’s natural resources.

The cost to attend is $80, with payment due by May 1st. Organizers say space is limited, so families are encouraged to register early.

Run & Walk for Sierra Set for April 11 in Trion

The community is coming together in Trion to support a local inspiration with a special 5K Run & Walk for Sierra on April 11.

Sierra Bennett, a 23-year-old with cerebral palsy, has found joy and purpose in chair racing, inspiring others with her determination and positive spirit. The daughter of Carrie and Josh Bennett, Sierra continues to compete and stay active in the racing community.

The event will take place at Trion Town Hall, located at 1220 Pine Street. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., with the race starting at 9:00 a.m.

There is no required registration fee, but donations of any amount are encouraged and will go directly toward helping Sierra cover race fees so she can continue doing what she loves.

Organizers say the event is not only about supporting Sierra, but also about bringing the community together for a meaningful cause.

Those who cannot attend but still wish to help are encouraged to donate.

This week’s WZQZ Chattooga Animal Shelter Pet of the Week is Diesel, a friendly dog looking for a forever home.

Diesel is a male dog described as sweet and playful, and he also does well with other dogs. His lovable personality and cheerful energy could make him a great addition to the right family.

Diesel is available now through the Chattooga County Animal Shelter, located at 464 Red Oak Drive in Summerville. The adoption fee is $25.

Beginner Sewing Class Set at Chattooga Library

The Chattooga Library will host a Beginner Sewing class on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at its location on Farrar Drive in Summerville.

The workshop is open to ages 12 and up and will give participants the chance to learn basic sewing skills while creating a reusable shopping bag with the help of a volunteer seamstress. The class is hosted by the Sara Hightower Regional Library System.

Easter Bunny Photo Event Planned at Sloppy Floyd State Park

Families in Chattooga County will have a chance to enjoy a festive spring outing when the Easter Bunny returns to Sloppy Floyd State Park next month for a special photo event.

Friends of Sloppy Floyd will host “Photos With the Easter Bunny” on Saturday, April 4, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the park office. Visitors are invited to bring their cameras and stop by for pictures with the Easter Bunny during the two-hour event.

The event offers local families a fun way to celebrate the Easter season and enjoy time together at the park.

A $10 ParkPass is required to attend.

Buster Named WZQZ Pet of the Week

Buster has been named this week’s WZQZ Pet of the Week and is looking for a forever home through the Chattooga County Animal Shelter.

Buster is a 1-year-old male currently available for adoption for a $25 adoption fee. Shelter officials say he is ready to become part of a loving family and encourage anyone interested in giving him a home to visit the shelter and learn more.

The Chattooga County Animal Shelter is located at 464 Red Oak Drive in Summerville. The shelter is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Wednesdays available by appointment. The shelter is also open the first Saturday of each month for adoptions only.

Summerville Friday Night Concert Series Returns with Free Live Music

The Summerville Natural Gas Friday Night Concert Series is set to return this spring and summer, bringing free live music to downtown Summerville’s East Washington Street Entertainment District.

The concert lineup kicks off April 24 at 7 p.m. with Pink Houses, followed by the 1st Generation Band on May 15, and Strictly Skynyrd on June 19. Each performance will begin at 7 p.m. on the outdoor stage, offering a mix of classic rock, soul, and Southern favorites for music fans of all ages.
