Eleven Chattooga County Students Head To National FFA Convention In Indianapolis

Eleven students from Summerville Middle School and Chattooga High School are on their way to Indianapolis, Indiana, to attend the 99th National FFA Convention and Expo.

The students will join thousands of FFA members from across the country for the annual event, which begins Wednesday, October 21, and continues through Saturday, October 24.

The National FFA Organization expects more than 70,000 students, agricultural educators, advisors and supporters to attend this year’s convention.

The four-day event will feature leadership workshops, educational sessions, agricultural career exhibits, competitions and opportunities for students to connect with fellow FFA members from across the United States.

Students will also have opportunities to explore more than 350 career paths in agriculture and related industries through the National FFA Expo.

The convention is one of the largest annual gatherings of agricultural education students in the country, providing opportunities to develop leadership skills, learn about agricultural careers and celebrate achievements in FFA programs.

The eleven students representing Summerville Middle School and Chattooga High School will have an opportunity to bring new experiences and ideas back to their local FFA chapters.

Chattooga County FFA Dairy Show Team Hosting Interest Meeting Thursday

Students interested in showing dairy cattle through the FFA program will have an opportunity to learn more about joining the Chattooga County Dairy Show Team this week.

The award-winning team is hosting a Dairy Showing Interest Meeting on Thursday, October 15, at 6 p.m. in the agriculture classroom at Summerville Middle School.

The meeting is intended for students interested in showing a dairy heifer as part of the FFA program.

Organizers say attendance at Thursday’s meeting is mandatory for students who want to sign up for dairy showing. Students must also be members of either the Summerville Middle School FFA or Chattooga High School FFA to participate.

The Chattooga County Dairy Show Team provides students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience working with livestock while developing responsibility, agricultural knowledge and animal-showing skills.

Those attending the meeting should pull to the left of the Summerville Middle School parking lot and follow the gravel driveway to the back of the school to reach the agriculture classroom.
