Chattooga County and much of Northwest Georgia will continue to deal with hazy skies today as wildfire smoke drifts north from South Georgia and North Florida. The smoke may create milky-looking skies and could lead to reduced air quality in some areas, especially where winds remain lighter.

A stretch of hazy, dry, and unseasonably warm weather is gripping Chattooga County and much of Northwest Georgia, as wildfire smoke drifting north from South Georgia and Florida continues to impact air quality and visibility across the region.

Trion High Softball To Host Youth Camp In June

Young athletes in Chattooga County will have the opportunity to sharpen their softball skills this summer as Trion High School hosts its annual youth softball camp.

The camp is scheduled for June 1 and 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the J.W. Greenwood Athletic Complex at the Trion High School softball field. It is open to children ages 5 through 12.

Campers will receive instruction in fundamental skills including hitting, throwing, pitching, fielding, and baserunning. The cost is $30 per participant, which includes a camp T-shirt.

Participants are asked to bring a water bottle, bat, and glove. Organizers also note that the camp will be held rain or shine.

Registration is open now, and those who sign up by May 8 are guaranteed to receive a T-shirt.

Trion Town Council To Hold Workshop And Regular Meeting Thursday

The Town of Trion has announced an upcoming workshop and council meeting later this week.

According to Mayor Mickey McGraw, the meeting will take place Thursday, April 23rd in the Town Hall Conference Room. The workshop session is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., with the regular council meeting to follow shortly after.

City officials say the meeting is open to the public, and anyone with questions or comments is encouraged to contact Trion Town Hall for additional information.

A cold front moved into Northwest Georgia early Sunday, bringing only limited rainfall to Chattooga County and surrounding areas. While a few scattered showers passed through during the morning hours, most communities across the region are expected to receive very little rain, with many spots seeing less than a tenth of an inch. Even in the areas that pick up the most rainfall, totals are not expected to be enough to make a meaningful dent in the ongoing dry conditions.

Shoplifting Arrest Made Following Incident at Trion Walmart

A woman was arrested earlier this month following a shoplifting incident at the Walmart in Trion.

According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the store on April 10th after reports of a suspected shoplifter attempting to leave with unpaid merchandise.

Upon arrival, deputies identified the suspect as Alexis Louise Dollar, who had allegedly been seen on camera selecting items and attempting to leave the store without paying. Loss prevention personnel advised that Dollar had passed all points of sale with merchandise valued at more than $180.

Authorities later located the suspect’s vehicle traveling on Highway 27. After an investigation and review of surveillance footage, deputies obtained a warrant through Rome City Court.

Alexis Louise Dollar was later taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting. She was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.
