Absentee Ballots for April 7th Runoff Election Available Until March 27

Voters in Chattooga County will be asked to return to the polls on April 7, 2026 to vote in two runoff elections.   The runoffs were a result of no candidate getting more than 50% of the vote in the Special Election for the Georgia 53rd Senate District and the 14th U.S. Congressional District races.

County-Wide Fifth Sunday Singing – March 29th

Churches in Chattooga County are invited to the county-wide Fifth Sunday Night Singing on March 29th at Subligna Baptist Church.  All singers are welcome to attend the service at 6 PM.  A covered dish dinner will be served after the singing.  If you have any questions, call Gail Rush at 706-859-1832.

Beginner Sewing Class Set at Chattooga Library

The Chattooga Library will host a Beginner Sewing class on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at its location on Farrar Drive in Summerville.

The workshop is open to ages 12 and up and will give participants the chance to learn basic sewing skills while creating a reusable shopping bag with the help of a volunteer seamstress. The class is hosted by the Sara Hightower Regional Library System.

Trion City Schools Releases 2026-2027 Academic Calendar

Trion City Schools has released its 2026-2027 school calendar, outlining key dates for students, parents, and staff for the upcoming academic year.

The school year will begin on July 30, 2026, following pre-planning for teachers scheduled July 27-29. The calendar includes several scheduled breaks, including Fall Break October 5-9, Thanksgiving Break November 23-27, and Christmas Break December 21 through January 1, with students returning on January 5.

Spring semester highlights include Spring Break April 5-9 and multiple professional learning and student holiday dates throughout the year. Early release days are scheduled for December 17-18, 2026, and May 19-20, 2027.

The last day of school is set for May 20, 2027, with graduation scheduled for May 21, 2027.

School officials encourage families to review the full calendar and plan ahead for holidays, breaks, and important academic dates.

Ms. Sandra Kaye Hunter Crowe, Obit (M)

Ms. Sandra Kaye Hunter Crowe, age 66, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, March 16, 2026, at CHI Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Crowe was born January 29, 1960, daughter of the late Marvin Hunter and the late Dorothy Siffles.  She was employed with I.F.S.

Ms. Crowe was a wildflower in a world of weeds; a free spirit, a beautiful soul, and a person that could simply not be caged.  She loved her family with a love that knew no bounds, a love that never ends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Kevin Hunter.

Survivors include her daughters, Jamie (Michael) Hancock, Samantha DeBerry, and Sarah DeBerry; step-mother, Mattie Hunter; brother, Larry (A.J.) Hunter; sister, Fran (Randall) Hamilton; her former husband, John Crowe; 6 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, March 27, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Fulbright officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Mason Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Teloga Baptist Church Easter Events

Teloga Baptist Church is having an Easter Egg hunt on Sunday, March 29th after the morning service.  A hot dog lunch will follow and everyone is welcome to attend.  On Easter Sunday, April 5th, Teloga Baptist Church will have an Easter Sunrise Service at 8 AM with special guest speaker Terry Hawkins, with breakfast served afterword.  Everyone is welcome to attend these Easter events at Teloga Baptist Church.
