Rock Springs Accident Claims Two Lives

A tragic two-vehicle collision in Rock Springs, Georgia, has claimed the lives of two individuals and left one seriously injured, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson confirmed earlier today.

The incident occurred on Highway 27 near Industrial Drive. According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), who are currently investigating the scene, a gray Toyota Tacoma was traveling south on Highway 27 in the left lane when the accident unfolded. “The driver of the Tacoma abruptly steered left into the left northbound lane, struck the front of a gray Jeep Renegade, also traveling north, with the front of the Tacoma,” GSP stated in their preliminary report. The impact caused the Tacoma to overturn.

A black Nissan Rogue, which was traveling north in the right northbound lane behind the Renegade, attempted to avoid the collision. However, the Rogue struck the driver-side rear of the overturned Tacoma. Tragically, the drivers of both the Toyota Tacoma and the Jeep Renegade were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.  Another person was injured and had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition remains unknown at this time.

The GSP is continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

New Leadership Elected to Chattooga County Republican Party

A significant shift in leadership has occurred within the Chattooga County Republican Party, following elections held at the Chattooga Senior Center this past Saturday. A large crowd of party members gathered to cast their votes, resulting in the election of a new slate of officers. Meredith Rosson was elected as the new Chair of the Chattooga County Republican Party. Serving alongside her will be Ron Williams and Jimmy Lenderman as Vice Chairs, Kevin Gilliland as Treasurer, and Herb Skelton as Secretary. The election marks a turning point for the local Republican Party, as the previous leadership had implemented several measures that sparked concern amongst Republican voters. A key point of contention was the vetting of candidates for office in 2024, a practice which drew criticism from many local Republicans who felt that the selection of candidates should be left to the voters at the ballot box, not determined by party leaders. Sources within the Chattooga County Republican Party have expressed optimism to WZQZ News that the new leadership will foster a more inclusive and transparent environment for all Republican voters within the county. The hope is that the change will revitalize the party and encourage greater participation from all members.
