Prewett Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce’s Awards Banquet, alongside Lisa Cook, wife of late ALABAMA member Jeff Cook.

State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) has released his weekly legislative report for the fourth week of the 2023 session of the Georgia General Assembly. Lumsden talks about passing the Amended Fiscal Year 2023 budget and outline several of Governor Kemp’s budget priorities for this legislative session. One of those involves a $50,000 grant for every school in the state to improve school security. Also, Rep. Lumsden said the amended budget includes $2.4 million to improve security at the state’s domestic violence shelters. Other highlights in the House’s Amended Fiscal Year 2023 budget include $1 billion for the governor’s new Homeowner Tax Relief Grant program, which would provide one-time property tax relief for qualifying homesteads for the tax year beginning January 1, 2023. Summerville Police responded to a dog complaint on Martin Street this past Saturday. According to a police report, when they arrived on the scene they found the victim, identified as forty-seven-year-old Holly Marshall, who had been attacked and had several bite marks. Police said that she had multiple wounds and was transported to a Rome hospital due to her injuries. Animal control took one pit bull from the scene at the request of Marshall. Police said that there were several more pit bulls inside the residence at the time of the incident. A man, identified as Buddy Rooker in the police report, who lives with Marshall also had a bite from a pit bull on the back of his neck but refused medical treatment. Rooker said that he was bitten while trying to get the aggressive animal off Marshall. Police said that they would be returning to the residence to discuss the living conditions of the aggressive animals living inside the residence.

According to a report released yesterday, last Tuesday, a call from a woman in the Haywood Valley area sent deputies to the scene of a domestic incident where a woman said her daughter had attacked her with a machete and fired shots into her residence. When a deputy arrived on the scene and spoke with the victim, she said that her daughter was inside the house at the time and that there were two firearms inside the residence. Deputies called out over the patrol car’s loud speaker and the daughter came out without incident. Forty-one-year-old Christa Leeann McWilliams was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, terroristic threats and acts, felony possession of a firearm or knife in the commission of a crime, criminal trespass and interfering with a call for emergency assistance.
