The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the passing of a longtime deputy and local pastor.
This past week, Georgia Speaker of the House Jon Burns and Lt. Governor Burt Jones joined with Governor Brian Kemp to announce that the Georgia General Assembly will undertake a thorough review of all Georgia tax credits, including Georgia’s film tax credit, later this year. This review is meant to support Georgia businesses while ensuring a significant return on investment for Georgia’s taxpayers.

Authorities in Northwest Georgia are telling homeowners and businesses to be on the lookout for a team of scammers that are offering to sell pine straw at a reduced price. Floyd County officials say that they have received several reports recently about two men and woman who approach homeowners and business owners with an offer to sell pine straw at a reduced price, but after delivery of the pine straw, the scam artists charge a much higher price. According to the Rome News Tribune, “The people pulled up to homes in a truck and claim they have gotten a deal on pine straw from South Georgia. Part of the price includes delivering and spreading the straw. Once completed, locals are reporting they push for a much higher price and demand payment”.

Georgia Masons Grandmaster Michael Kessler presented a check to the Chattooga Chamber Foundation for Chattooga Flood Relief on Sunday of this week. The ceremony took place at the Chattooga Civic Center in Summerville.
A county-wide competition to “Clean up Chattooga” County is coming in April. The event organizers are encouraging civic clubs, churches, businesses, youth organizations and others to come together and build teams to go out and pick up litter in various locations in the county.
U.S. Senator John Ossoff (D-GA) was in Northwest Georgia yesterday to announce new life-saving equipment that is coming to Chattooga County with Atrium Health’s free standing emergency department.
Concerns about self-driving cars are significantly higher than last year, according to an annual automated vehicle survey just released by AAA. The survey reveals 68% of drivers are afraid of riding in a self-driving vehicle. That’s up from 55% in 2022, and the largest annual increase since 2020.
A thirty-four-year-old Chattooga County man was arrested in Armuchee in Floyd County on Thursday of this week after Floyd County Police charged him with driving under the influence. Vincent Ray Hix, of a Highway 100 Summerville address, was arrested in the Food Lion Parking Lot, across from the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome and charged with being under the influence of multiple substances.
