Busy Week of Athletics and Events Ahead at Chattooga High School

Chattooga High School has a full schedule of athletic events and activities planned for the week of March 8–14, according to Assistant Principal and Athletic Director J. Mark Turner.

The week begins Monday with JV Baseball hosting Ridgeland at 5:00 p.m. On Tuesday, the Track and Field team will compete at home at 4:00 p.m., while tennis plays Coosa at the Rome Tennis Center at 4:00 p.m. Later that evening, JV and Varsity baseball travel to Dade County at 5:00 p.m., and soccer teams travel to Coosa for a 5:30 p.m. match.

Thursday features several home events including soccer against Dade County at 5:00 p.m. at Ben Windom Stadium and JV and Varsity baseball hosting Dade County at 5:00 p.m. The CTAE Advisory Meeting and Dinner will also be held Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the CHS Cafeteria.

On Friday, tennis hosts Model at the Rome Tennis Center at 4:00 p.m., soccer travels to Christian Heritage at 5:00 p.m., and JV baseball plays at Dade County at 5:30 p.m.

The week concludes Saturday with Varsity baseball traveling to North Sand Mountain for a noon game.

Miss Chattooga County Pageant Set for March 28 at Chattooga High School

The Miss Chattooga County Pageant 2026 will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Chattooga High School in the auditorium/cafeteria. Organizers are encouraging contestants to register early and take advantage of the discounted entry fee.

The early registration deadline is March 20 at 11:59 p.m., with an entry fee of $40. Participants who register before that deadline will save $10 compared to the late registration fee. Late registration will remain open until March 26 at 6:00 p.m., with a fee of $50.

Contestants must either live in Chattooga County or attend a school in Chattooga County to be eligible to participate. Reigning winners may not compete in the same category the following year but may enter the next category if their age allows them to move up.

FLEX Day Coming March 19 in Chattooga County Showcases Student Entrepreneurs

The Chattooga Chamber is inviting the community to come out on March 19 for FLEX Day at the Hurley Community Development Center, where the Top 3 student entrepreneurs will compete for a chance to win $3,000 and advance to the state level.

Organizers say the event highlights the strong entrepreneurial spirit growing in Chattooga County and encourages everyone to support these young innovators.

The competition is part of the Georgia Foundational Leadership & Entrepreneur X-perience (FLEX) program, a non-profit initiative launched in 2022 that trains students in entrepreneurship and business leadership while helping them develop and launch their own ventures.

The program is open to students at Trion High School, Chattooga High School, and high-school aged homeschool students in Chattooga County.

Chattooga High School Basketball Heads to State Tournament

Chattooga High School basketball is headed to the state tournament with both the boys and girls teams set to play on the road this week, and both matchups will require significant travel.

The Chattooga boys will play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Rabun County High School, while the Chattooga girls will face Putnam County High School on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The teams will be traveling more than 150 miles for a nearly three-hour trip as they represent Chattooga County on the state stage.

Fans are encouraged to support the Indians and Lady Indians and wish them safe travels and strong performances.

Chattooga Teachers Named Georgia Science Teachers of the Year

 

 

Two educators from the Chattooga County School District are being recognized statewide for excellence in science instruction. Erin Smith of Leroy Massey Elementary and Melissa Rowe of Chattooga High School have been named Georgia Science Teachers Association (GSTA) Science Teachers of the Year, earning top honors at the elementary and high school levels.

District leaders say Smith and Rowe were selected for their dedication, instructional leadership, and passion for engaging students in meaningful science learning. Their recognition, the district says, reflects the high-quality science instruction delivered across Chattooga County classrooms each day.

The GSTA Teacher of the Year Award honors educators with a proven record of excellence and impact on student learning. Award recipients receive a $1,500 honorarium and complimentary registration to the GSTA Annual Conference. The district is encouraging the community to join in congratulating both teachers on the achievement.
