Breakfast With Santa Set For December 5 In Summerville

Families in Chattooga County will have an opportunity to enjoy breakfast with Santa Claus this holiday season while supporting local 4-H programs.

The annual Breakfast With Santa event is scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center, located at 40 Middle School Road in Summerville.

Tickets are $10 per person, and all proceeds will benefit Chattooga County 4-H. Breakfast will be served by Santa’s helpers, and children will have an opportunity to visit with Santa.

Organizers say seating is limited to 200 people, and advance tickets are required for both adults and children. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Tickets are available at the Chattooga County 4-H Office and the Farm Bureau office.

Photographs taken during the event will be posted publicly on Facebook for families to access.

The event is presented in connection with Chattooga County 4-H, the University of Georgia Extension and Georgia Farm Bureau.

There was a time when the arrival of autumn in Chattooga County meant more than cooler weather and changing leaves. It meant cotton-picking season, when farmers worked long hours bringing in a crop that was once the backbone of the county’s agricultural economy.

From the early days of Chattooga County in the 1800s through much of the first half of the 20th century, cotton was one of the most important sources of income for local farm families.

According to research by the Chattooga County Historical Society, cotton dominated local agriculture from the time the county was established in 1838. By the early 1900s, agricultural agents were encouraging farmers to diversify their crops rather than depend so heavily on cotton.

Farm Bureau Seeking Nominations for 2027 Veteran Farmer Award

The American Farm Bureau Federation is accepting applications for its 2027 Veteran Farmer Award of Excellence, recognizing military veterans and active-duty service members who have found success in agriculture while making a positive impact in their communities.

Supported by Farm Credit, the award honors individuals who have carried the values of military service into farming and ranching, including leadership, hard work, problem-solving, and service to others.

The winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize, along with reimbursement for travel and related expenses to attend the 2027 American Farm Bureau Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 2026 recipient was retired Army Command Sergeant Major Matthew Rutter of South Carolina. Following a 22-year military career, Rutter co-founded Project Victory Gardens and created Farmer Bootcamp, a program designed to help fellow veterans explore careers and opportunities in agriculture.

Applications for the 2027 award are due September 1. Farm Bureau membership is not required to apply.
