Georgia Tax Collections Rise Slightly

Georgia tax collections rose slightly last month, as a decline in individual income tax receipts was offset by gains in sales and corporate income tax revenue. The state Department of Revenue brought in nearly $3 billion in January, up 1.1% over January of last year.

Middle School Cheer Tryouts

A meeting for parents of middle school students interested in trying out for cheer leading will be held at the Leroy Massey Elementary School cafeteria on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 6 PM.  Tryouts for middle school cheer leading will be held Monday, March 20 – Friday, March 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM.  Students interested in cheer leading must have a current physical, 3 teacher recommendations and a copy of their insurance card.  If you have questions you can contact Coach Lacie Lea at llea@chattooga.k12.ga.us

Summerville Man Jailed In Floyd County

A thirty-eight-year-old Chattooga County man was jailed in Floyd County over the weekend.  According to arrest records, Jarvis Jamal Johnson of a Peppermint Place, Summerville address was arrested by Floyd County Police on a felony probation violation and was booked into the Floyd County Jail.

Sara Hightower Regional Library Receives Financial Literacy Grant

The Sara Hightower Regional Library System, in partnership with the University of West Georgia’s Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy (CEEFL), has received a $50,000 grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Foundation. Grant funds will be used to create and present financial literacy resources and programming for Floyd, Polk, and Chattooga Counties.
