Chattooga Chamber Lunch & Learn To Spotlight Boys & Girls Club

The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will give local business and community members an opportunity to learn more about the work of the Boys & Girls Club of Chattooga during its September Lunch & Learn.

The event will be held Tuesday, September 15 at the Boys & Girls Club, located at 11570 U.S. Highway 27 in Summerville.

Rather than holding the monthly event at a traditional meeting location, Chamber members and other guests will have lunch at the club and then get a firsthand look at the facility and its programs.

Director Deb Stowe will lead a tour and talk about the work she and her staff are doing with young people in Chattooga County. The Chamber says the visit will provide an opportunity for participants to see the club in operation and learn more about its role in the community.

The public is invited, but reservations are required because lunch will be catered.

The cost is $12 for Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce members and $17 for non-members.

The Boys & Girls Club provides local young people with a supervised environment and programs designed to support education, personal development and positive activities outside regular school hours.

The September Lunch & Learn will give local residents and business leaders an opportunity not only to hear about those programs, but also to tour the facility and see where that work is taking place.

Lyerly Elementary School is reminding area golfers and community supporters about a fundraising golf tournament coming up this Saturday, September 12, to help support the school’s eighth-grade trip.

The Study Cade Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be held at Little Mole Run Golf Course in Mentone, Alabama. The tournament begins at 9 AM Eastern Time — 8 AM Central Time.

With the tournament now less than a week away, individuals and businesses can still support the fundraiser by registering to play or sponsoring a hole.

Those interested in participating or becoming a sponsor should contact Zach White at zwhite@chattooga.k12.ga.us. Payments can be made at Lyerly Elementary School or mailed to 150 Oak Hill Road, Lyerly, GA 30730.

Little Mole Run Golf Course is located at 741 County Road 647 in Mentone.

Proceeds from Saturday’s tournament will help Lyerly Elementary students with expenses associated with their upcoming eighth-grade trip. Organizers are encouraging golfers, local businesses and other community members to participate and help support the students

Low-Cost Spay And Neuter Transport Available For Chattooga County Pets

Animal Advocates of Chattooga County, in partnership with My Kids Have Paws Veterinary Services, is offering another opportunity for local residents to have dogs and cats spayed or neutered at a reduced cost.

The next transport to Rome is scheduled for Monday, September 28. Pets will be dropped off and picked up at the Elder’s Ace Hardware Shopping Center, next to Red Lobster, at 610 Shorter Avenue NW in Rome.

Drop-off will be between 7 and 7:15 AM, with owners notified by text when the transport is returning to Rome for pickup.

Appointments are limited. As of the announcement, openings were available for 10 male cats, nine female cats and three male dogs.

Residents must contact My Kids Have Paws directly at 706-671-1104, option 4, to schedule an appointment. Animal Advocates of Chattooga County cannot schedule appointments.

A $41 deposit is required when scheduling and is applied toward the appointment. The announcement says $20 of that deposit can be reimbursed to Chattooga County residents.

Financial assistance is available for qualifying Chattooga County residents and covers a portion of the spay or neuter procedure and rabies vaccine. Proof of residency is required, and assistance is limited to 10 pets per household.

A community voter registration and education event called “Power to the Polls” will be held Saturday, September 19, from 10 AM until 2 PM at the Fairway Recreation Center, 81 Senior Drive in Summerville.

The event is being hosted by Summerville City Councilwoman Simone Adams and Ashley Adams and will offer voter registration assistance and verification.

Organizers say those attending should bring a valid photo ID.

The event will also feature free lunch while supplies last, along with giveaways and prizes throughout the day.

“Power to the Polls” is being promoted as a community voter registration and education initiative under the theme “Your Voice, Your Vote.”
