Chattooga High School Class Of 1986 Plans 40th Reunion

The Chattooga High School Class of 1986 will celebrate its 40th Class Reunion on Saturday, October 3, at the Summerville Civic Center.

The evening will feature music, finger foods and desserts, photo displays, and opportunities for classmates to reconnect and share memories from their years at Chattooga High School. Organizers say each classmate attending will receive a reunion T-shirt, with additional shirts available for purchase.

The reunion is open to classmates and guests. Tickets are $25 for individuals or $40 per couple, and attendees are asked to RSVP by August 15.

Those planning to attend should provide their name, shirt size, whether they are registering as an individual or couple, and payment information.

GNTC Fall Admission Deadline Approaching August 4

Students planning to attend Georgia Northwestern Technical College this fall are encouraged to complete their applications soon. The fall admissions deadline is Tuesday, August 4.

GNTC offers more than 200 degree, diploma and certificate programs across six campus locations in Northwest Georgia. Programs include aviation and industrial technologies, business, cybersecurity, health sciences, nursing, and public service careers.

The college also offers hands-on training, financial aid opportunities, and says many programs provide strong job placement opportunities for graduates.

Chattooga County Young Farmers To Meet August 6

The Chattooga County Young Farmers will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chattooga County Ag Barn.

The featured topic for the evening will be the Chattooga County Fair, with Lynn Hall serving as the guest speaker. Organizers encourage anyone interested in learning more about the fair or the Young Farmers program to attend.

Dinner will be available for $10 and includes grilled pork chops, loaded mashed potatoes, and salad.

The United States Postal Service is accepting applications for two positions at the Summerville Post Office.

Open positions include Rural Carrier Associate (RCA) and Assistant Rural Carrier (ARC).

The RCA position pays $21.89 per hour. Applicants must provide their own delivery vehicle and are eligible for a mileage reimbursement of approximately 97 cents per mile.

The ARC position is primarily for Sundays and holidays, and a postal service vehicle is provided for those deliveries.

The positions are being advertised through August 2, 2026.

Chattooga County Extension To Host 2026 Northwest Georgia Master Cattlemen’s Program

The Chattooga County Extension Office is now accepting registrations for the 2026 Northwest Georgia Master Cattlemen’s Program, an educational series designed for cattle producers looking to expand their knowledge and improve herd management.

The program will be held Monday evenings at 6:00 p.m. at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center, located at 40 Middle School Road in Summerville.

The registration fee is $100, which includes all in-person sessions, educational materials, a UGA Beef hat, and meals. The registration deadline is September 8.

The Master Cattlemen’s Program is offered through UGA Extension and covers a variety of topics related to beef cattle production and management.

Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office Hiring Detention Officers

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for detention officers at the Chattooga County Jail.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, have a valid driver’s license, and successfully pass a background investigation and drug screening. The sheriff’s office also says applicants should demonstrate good moral character along with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Detention officers are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the jail, supervising inmates, conducting security checks, preparing reports, responding to emergencies, and working alongside sworn deputies and jail staff.

The position includes a competitive salary, employer-matched retirement, health, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, paid training, uniforms and equipment, promotional opportunities, and a stable career in public safety.

Residents and visitors are invited to downtown Summerville today, Saturday, August 1, for the Celebrate Living Local Market, held in conjunction with the arrival of a Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum excursion train.

The market will feature local businesses, artists, craftspeople and food vendors. Participants include Sabo’s Golden Nectar with an educational observation beehive and locally produced honey, artist Billy Smith, Willow Flowers at Teloga Springs Farm, Acolyte Realty and additional community vendors.

Food and refreshments will be available from Twisted Treatz Bakery, Eneya’s Lemonade & Sipsations, Granny Hon’s Great Food, Rosita’s and Small Town BBQ.

Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Engine 4501 is expected to arrive at the Summerville Depot at approximately 12:45 p.m. with passengers aboard. During the train’s roughly 90-minute layover, visitors will be able to watch the locomotive being turned on the historic Summerville Turntable before it continues its journey.

The event offers a chance to shop with local vendors, enjoy food and refreshments, and see one of the South’s best-known steam locomotives in action.
