Chattooga County State Court Judge Jon Dennis says that State Court is still being held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 – however, State Court for Friday, January 10, 2025 has been cancelled due to the impending weather.

Post Offices Closed Thursday For National Day Of Mourning

In honor of former President Jimmy Carter, President Biden has declared a National Day of Mourning for tomorrow, January 9, 2025.  President Carter’s state funeral will be conducted a the National Cathedral in Washington D.C.  Local postal officials want to remind residents that all U.S. Post Offices will be closed on Thursday.  Following the state funeral, President Carter’s body will be flown back to Georgia and there will be a private service at his home church, Maranatha Baptist, in Plains.  President Carter will then be buried at his home in downtown Plains, about a mile from Maranatha Baptist where he and his wife were members.

Young Farmers Postpone Annual Banquet Due To Winter Weather Possibility

The Chattooga Young Farmers have announced the postponement of their highly anticipated Annual Banquet originally set for this Saturday. Citing concerns over inclement weather predicted for later this week, organizers have decided to reschedule the event to ensure the safety of all attendees. The banquet will now take place on January 25 at 7 PM at the Chattooga County Ag Center. Those who plan to attend are kindly requested to RSVP by January 22 to facilitate proper arrangements. In addition to the banquet update, the Young Farmers have also announced a new date for the pesticide recertification course in collaboration with Floyd County. The class will now be held on Tuesday, January 21, at Burk Farm in Armuchee, starting at 6:30 PM. Participants are reminded that a meal will be provided for a cost of $10.

Local Man Arrested for Disorderly Conduct Near Lyerly Dam

A 33-year-old man, John Howard Trammel, was arrested late last Thursday night after a confrontation with law enforcement while allegedly tampering with an abandoned motorcycle.

Pre-K registration for Trion Elementary School begins Friday, February 14th for all students wishing to enroll in the 2025-2026 school year.  Parents/Legal Guardians may stop by the elementary office beginning at 8:30 am on February 14th to pick up enrollment packets and turn in required documentation.
