Three candidates have announced plans to run for Georgia Senate District 53 following Sen. Colton Moore’s decision to pursue a congressional seat. Moore, a Republican from Trenton, is campaigning to replace U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who announced she will resign from Congress in January.
New economic data shows that jobs in Chattooga County are closely tied to trade moving through Georgia’s ports, even though those ports are hours away from Northwest Georgia.
Rain returns to Chattooga County and much of Northwest Georgia today as a cold front approaches the region. Forecasters say most of the area can expect three-quarters of an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall, with a few isolated spots possibly seeing up to two inches or more, especially across the higher elevations of far northwest Georgia.
As Thanksgiving travel ramps up, drivers across Georgia are seeing a slight increase in gas prices heading into the holiday week. According to AAA, the statewide average now stands at $2.87 per gallon, driven by a modest rise in crude oil prices and growing travel demand. Prices are six cents higher than last week, nine cents higher than last month, but still six cents lower than this time last year. Filling up a standard 15-gallon tank now costs about $43.95.
State Senator Colton Moore, who represents Chattooga, Walker, Dade, Catoosa, and a portion of Floyd County in the Georgia General Assembly, says he is showing “strong interest” in running for the now-open U.S. House seat in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.
