A bill pending in the Georgia General Assembly would exempt health care providers looking to build medical facilities from certificates of need if they plan to open up in rural Georgia counties with less than 50,000 people.
The Trion Police Department and Chief David Gilleland are sponsoring a leadership training event that will be held at Living Life On Target in Summerville. The three-day event is meant build personal leadership and make law enforcement officers better equipped to lead and motivate. A sixty-three-year-old Paulding County woman has been arrested for the second time in two weeks for charges stemming from a child abuse investigation that started last month.
Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp on Thursday announced that Frank O’Connell will continue his service to the State of Georgia as State Revenue Commissioner. He has served as Interim Commissioner since November, 2022.
The Summerville City Council will be holding a meeting tomorrow at 5 PM. The meeting will be preceded by a question and answer session with the mayor and city council members. Anyone is welcome to attend the question and answer session and the meeting. Acting City Manager Andrea Suratt will be giving the council an update on Town Creek and the work that has been ongoing for the past several month to alleviate flooding issues. Also, the council will be opening sealed bids for a new metal building for Summerville Public Works.
Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King has announced that the agency’s Criminal Investigations Division has launched a new portal for reporting suspected insurance fraud.
The Chattooga County Land Use Commission is still working to come up with revisions to the land use ordinance that was hastily adopted by Commissioner Blake Elsberry almost a year ago. Originally, the commissioner had said revisions would be in place by the first of the year, but the commission is now looking at two different proposed alterations to the ordinance.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding businesses of all sizes, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters in Georgia and Alabama affected by flooding on Sept. 3-4, 2022, to apply for physical damage disaster loans by the March 10 deadline.
A Saddle Club Road, Summerville man called the sheriff’s office on Feburary4th, to report an attempted burglary. The complainant told a responding deputy that he was asleep, when he heard a loud banging noise on his garage doors. When he got up to investigate, he found that the perpetrator had knocked a hole in the door of the garage. The complainant told the deputy that he suspected the damage was done by his ex-girlfriend. He explained that he had another woman living with him now, and his ex girlfriend was not happy with the current arrangement. He also told the deputy that his daughter had told him that the ex girlfriend had been by the residence several times, but the complainant had not had any contact with the woman. The deputy advised the complainant that a report would be filed about the attempted burglary and that he should consider taking out a temporary protection order against his ex girlfriend.
A passing motorist reported an abandoned vehicle on Wildlife Lake Road to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office last weekend. A responding deputy found a Toyota 4-Runner down an embankment. The engine was still warm and sheriff’s deputy searched the wooded area looking for the driver or any passengers, but no one was ever found. The sheriff’s department attempted to make contact with the owner, but the number listed for the owner was not valid. The sheriff’s office had the vehicle towed to the impound lock by Luallen’s Wrecker Service.
