During National EMS Week, AdventHealth Georgia is welcoming a new source of comfort and encouragement for its Emergency Medical Services team.

Members of the Chattooga County Democratic Party organized a peaceful protest in downtown Summerville on Saturday in support of a Trion High School student currently being held by federal immigration authorities.
All are residents are invited to enjoy a free hot meal today during the Grateful Saturday Blessings event at Summerville First Baptist Church.
The meal will be served from 11 AM until 1 PM at the church located at 125 Georgia Avenue in Summerville.
Today’s menu includes spaghetti, corn and garlic bread, along with desserts.
The meal is available to anyone in the community.
Organizers say Grateful Saturday Blessings will pause for the summer and resume in August 2026.
An upcoming online event focused on self-advocacy and personal empowerment is set for Tuesday, May 20 at 1 p.m. through Zoom.
The program encourages participants to “speak up, be heard, and make a difference” by learning skills related to self-expression, confidence, decision-making, and community support.
According to event organizers, the self-advocacy session will focus on helping individuals better understand how to express their thoughts, needs, and personal boundaries while building confidence in everyday situations.
Topics highlighted for the event include:
- Knowing your voice and learning how to communicate your needs
- Building confidence to speak up in everyday life
- Making choices that are right for you
- Connecting with others in a supportive community environment
The virtual meeting will be held through Zoom on May 20 beginning at 1 p.m. Organizers say the event is designed to encourage participants to be bold, be themselves, and be heard.

Organizers are preparing for the annual Back to School Bash for Trion and Chattooga students, and community support is being sought to help local families get ready for the new school year.
A protest at the Chattooga County Courthouse is scheduled this Saturday in support of a Trion High School student who was arrested after an accident in Walker County and subsequently detained by federal immigration authorities.
The Rome Area Heritage Foundation is calling on Floyd County leaders to preserve the Historic Floyd County Courthouse following the March 23 fire that damaged the landmark structure.
The Chattooga High School Marching Band is holding a Sportsman Raffle fundraiser featuring outdoor gear, fishing equipment, and a guided fishing trip on Weiss Lake.
The raffle package includes a YETI Roadie 24 cooler, a guided fishing trip for two on Weiss Lake through Whaley & Son Guide Service, a fishing rod and reel combo, a Snackle Box, and a pack of Gatorade.
Tickets are $25 each or five tickets for $100, with only 200 tickets available.
The drawing is scheduled for May 30, 2026.
Supporters interested in purchasing tickets or helping support the CHS Marching Band are encouraged to contact band representatives for more information.
Organizers are gearing up for the annual Back to School Bash for Trion and Chattooga students, with plans to make this year’s event even bigger for local families.
The event is scheduled for July 16, 2026, from 4 until 6 p.m. and will include music, free back-to-school haircuts, shaved ice treats, community resources, and school-year support for students.
Organizers are currently accepting school supply donations, monetary donations, and community partners or vendors who would like to set up and share resources with families.
