A bill dealing with automobile insurance and sponsored by State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) passed the Georgia House on Tuesday. The bill seeks to change the code section of Georgia law for underwriting policies to replace minimum standards currently required by the state, to be minimum standards provided by the carrier.

To keep turnover costs low, front-line workers are getting a raise. Home Depot announced on Tuesday a one-billion-dollar investment in raising wages. And while the company did not disclose the new average wage for employees, it did say every market’s starting wage is at least $15 per hour.
A twenty-one-year-old Summerville man was arrested recently for driving under the influence – in the drive thru at the Summerville McDonald’s.
Summerville Police were alerted about a “rolling domestic” situation on February 11th, according to a report released this week by the police department.
Summerville Police were alerted to an attempted break-in at a business on Commerce Street on Friday of last week. Around 9:30 PM, police received a call from a man who was passing by, who said that he and his wife saw a man trying to pry the door open on the Cedar & Rose Boutique at 9940 Commerce Street. The man attempting to gain entry to the store was described as being a white male with a baseball cap on sideways and wearing a white jacket and red pants. Police notified the owner of the business, who lives in Trion. There was damage done to the door frame of the business. Police searched the area, but were unable to find anyone fitting the description of the perpetrator.
A motorcyclist from Cartersville was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle wreck in Gordon County.

The Trion Bulldogs boys basketball team’s season came to an end on the road last night as the Bulldogs lost to the Rabun County Tigers by a score of 54 to 42. The Chattooga Indians will be hosting the first round of GHSA basketball playoffs coming up this evening with the doors at Chattooga High School opening at 5 PM.
A stolen firearm was reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office last week. According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, the complainant told a deputy that he had left the firearm with a man in Haywood Valley who had since passed away. The complainant said that someone had entered the residence where the gun was kept and stolen the firearm. The type of gun was not identified in the sheriff’s office report. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
