The Rome Police Department is investigating a deadly incident that happened Tuesday, February 24, 2026, after a person was struck by a train behind the Rome Kroger.
According to Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor, the deceased is a female, and her body is being sent to the GBI Crime Lab.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are being released at this time.

The Chattooga County Animal Shelter is spotlighting several dogs and cats currently available for adoption and looking for loving homes.
Among the dogs available are Kevin, Ariana, Milo, Ember, Rem, Lily, Fiona, Lick, Rosie, Kuma, Willow, Beaux, Moose, Hoss, and Aspen. Cats available for adoption include Atlas, Oreo, Aries, and Zorro.

The Annual Vietnam Veterans Lunch will be held Friday, March 27, 2026 at 12 noon at the Chattooga County Memorial Home, ahead of National Vietnam War Veterans Day on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Organizers say the luncheon will include a brief program honoring those who served during the Vietnam era.
Residents who want to grow their own vegetables can get ready for spring planting at a Vegetable Gardening Class happening tomorrow, Wednesday, February 25, at 6 p.m. at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center, located at 40 Middle School Road.

Charges have been dismissed in connection with a 2023 fatal crash that claimed the life of a LaFayette motorcyclist, according to documents filed in Floyd County Superior Court.

Milo is a 2-year-old neutered male who shelter staff say is good with other dogs. He was surrendered by his previous owner and is now looking for a new forever home. His adoption fee is $25.
